Communities are created and generated according to a confluence of many things, broadly speaking – space and opportunity define community. in the case of this short documentary we explore St Kilda a seaside inner city suburb of Melbourne through the eyes and words of a select number of its residents. From a landowner, to an actor from the Matrix turned community leader, to a homeless alcoholic and a hospitality worker it is through these characters that we touch on the flavour of what is St Kilda Lives.

Entry from: St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia Entry Title: “”Home sweet home…”" Entry: “They say moving house is the most stressful thing you do in your life, well after viewing 20 + apartments in Melbourne, i would agree. I spent the first 2 weeks staying in a recently built ‘flashpackers’ in the city, and although nice and clean, it was miles away from where i was working and the kitchen wasn’t big enough to swing a cat in. I had had enough with hostels, I needed my own kitchen, my own bedroom, couch, TV and kitchen! Fortunately so did Dan and Eric (a fellow fruit picker from Bowen who happened to be in melbourne at the time). With the saturday house newspaper in hand we started circling various apartments, the only problem was trying to decided where to live, a conflict of interests started immediately! Eric was adament on living in St Kilda, the cool beach suburb out of town, whereas Dan and I had our hearts set on living in one of the swanky new tower blocks in the city. To be fair to each other we checked out both areas, viewing some nice, and some outright disgusting appartments/ houses! Me and Dan nearly got our own way almost signing on the dotted line on a 2 bedroom fully furnished 30th floor apartment. With views over the city, Swimming pool and Gym we couldn’t really think of anything …
